Housing Bank is the mainstream Jordanian account for civil servants and family households — and increasingly for side-hustling professionals taking on freelance work. Pull every client transfer into a clean Excel.
Convert your Housing Bank statementJordan's freelance and creative economy has grown alongside the country's tech and remote-work boom. Many Jordanian freelancers hold their main account at Housing Bank — often because they already have a mortgage there — and route client payments into the same account that handles the salary, the housing loan instalment, and the family expenses. Separating freelance income from everything else is the first task at tax time or for any JIT freelance permit renewal.
Jordan applies a progressive personal income tax of 5–30%. The ISTD treats all income from all sources as taxable for residents. Whether you receive payments from a Saudi or Emirati client via SWIFT, from a Jordanian client over the FAST network, or from a local cash deposit, every credit needs to be visible and categorised. The Housing Bank statement holds them all; Kashfbank pulls them into Excel.
Housing Bank issues a bilingual Arabic-English PDF. Columns are clearly labelled: Date, Serial, Description, Debit (JOD), Credit (JOD), Balance (JOD). JOD amounts use three decimal places. The account summary shows opening balance, total debits, total credits, and closing balance for the period.
Inbound SWIFT transfers from foreign clients carry the originator's BIC and beneficiary detail in the description column — sometimes long enough to wrap. Domestic JOD transfers from Jordanian clients use the FAST network and show CliQ aliases or full beneficiary names. Online banking transfers carry channel identifiers in the narration. Personal transfers from family, salary credits from the day job, and freelance income from clients all share the same statement — categorisation in Excel is the work.
Jordan's ISTD wants total income by source. JIT freelance permit renewals require an annual income disclosure. Both pull from the same rows: incoming client payments, separated from personal transfers, salary, and standing orders.
Bilingual Arabic-English PDF with clearly labelled columns: date, serial, transaction description, debit (JOD), credit (JOD), balance (JOD). JOD amounts to three decimal places. Account summary section at top shows opening balance, total debits, total credits, and closing balance. Trade finance entries (LCs, guarantees) reference documentary credit numbers. Branch and online channels are coded differently in the narration.

Pull the period from HB Mobile
Open HB Mobile or Housing Bank Online and request the period your accountant needs — typically 12 months for the annual ISTD return, or whatever the JIT renewal demands. Bilingual AR+EN columns are read natively by Kashfbank.

Drop it into Kashfbank. JOD three-decimal amounts are preserved. The Excel export includes Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Balance, and Category columns. Bilingual narration is kept on each row.
Filter to freelance income only
Sort by Category to keep SWIFT inbound and FAST inbound rows. Drop standing orders, ATM withdrawals, POS purchases, the housing loan instalment, and any salary credits if you also hold a job. What remains is your gross freelance income for the period.
Convert any non-JOD income at the CBJ rate
Most Housing Bank freelance accounts are JOD-only, but if you hold a USD sub-account, multiply each USD credit by the CBJ average rate for the period — published on the Central Bank of Jordan website. Add the result to the JOD total. Send the Excel and the rate sheet to your accountant.
Common challenges
Does Kashfbank handle the JOD three-decimal format correctly?
Yes. JOD uses three decimal places (1,250.500 JOD, not 1,250.50). Kashfbank preserves all three. Tools that assume two decimals introduce drift across hundreds of rows. We do not round.
I receive Gulf client payments via SWIFT. Are those taxable in Jordan?
Generally yes if you are a Jordanian tax resident — Jordan taxes worldwide income for residents. The foreign-currency figure is converted to JOD at the CBJ average rate for the tax period, then added to your taxable income. The Housing Bank statement captures the inbound credit cleanly.
My freelance work is mixed in with the household account that pays the housing loan. Is that a problem?
Not for Kashfbank — the export keeps every row. You filter by Category in Excel to isolate freelance income from household expenses. For the JIT renewal, ISTD only cares about the income lines. The housing loan instalment is not a freelance expense.
Does the Kashfbank export work for the JIT freelance permit renewal?
The JIT renewal income disclosure accepts a summary supported by bank evidence. The Excel export and the underlying PDF together serve as that evidence. JIT does not mandate a specific portal format — it wants verifiable totals.
